12.07.07 - Vitamin C reduces risk of development CRPS
If women with a broken wrist take 500 miligrams of vitamin C every day, the chance they will develop CRPS is reduced by 75%.
This is the conclusion of research done by Paul Zollinger from the Rivierenland Hospital in Tiel (NL). The results were published in Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. The research was performed at hospitals in Beverwijk, The Hague and Delft.
One of the interesting aspects of this research is that there is still very little known about the effectiveness of preventive treatments. These results confirm earlier research findings by Zollinger, that were already mentioned in CRPS guidelines by CBO, a quality insurance institute for the health care sector.
These guidelines can be viewed at the CBO website.
