CRPS is usually preceded by a trauma like a fracture, inflammation or operation. In 3-11% of all cases however the disease develops spontaneously. De Rooij and others (LUMC Leiden) compared ‘spontaneous’ CRPS patients with trauma related CRPS patients. The results have recently been published in the European Journal of Pain.
The standard treatments of pain in CRPS ltaten op. Sigtermans and others studied the effect of S(+)-ketamine on pain reduction in CRPS. The results were recently published in Pain.
On Tuesday May 24th 2011, Susan Collins will defend the PhD thesis “Complex Regional Pain Syndrome type 1: Assessment and treatment targeting central sensitization” in Amsterdam, at the VU University.
