23.01.09 - No clear pattern of inheritance for Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS-1)
Genetic factors seem to play a role in Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. To find out if there is a genetic pattern TREND studied 31 families in which two or more people have, or have had, CRPS-1.
Although multiple occurences of CRPS-1 within the same family are possible, no clear inheritance pattern could be found in this study. This means that family members of CRPS patients can not be advised on the risk they run of getting the disease themselves. However, the small numbers of CRPS patients within the same family indicate that this chance is rather small.
