16.02.09 - No clear effects of estrogens on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
De Mos and others (Erasmus MC) have studied the influence of the female hormone estrogen on CRPS.
CRPS is most frequent among women between 50 and 70 years old. This would suggest a hightened risk in the menopause, a phase in which the level of indigenous estrogens diminishes.
Based on this study no significant correlation was found between CRPS and estrogen exposure. The results suggested that estrogens might have a small protective effect, but more research is necessary.
