20.04.09 - New instrument for continuous pain measurement
Measuring pain intensity, pain duration and the effect of analgesia is an important function in both research and clinical practice.
Researchers from the OLVG and the VU medical center in Amsterdam have developed an instrument to monitor pain intensity on a continuous basis: the Continuous Pain Score Meter (CPSM). Boormans and others studied the test-retest reliability.
The results of this study showed that the test-retest reliability of the CPSM is good. The CPSM could be an interesting alternative to the VAS, especially when the pain stimulus lasts for a longer period of time.
These findings have been published in the article ‘Reliability of a Continuous Pain Score Meter: Real Time Pain Measurement’, that has recently been published in Pain Practice.
