1.02.10 - Ketamine leads to pain reduction

The standard treatments of pain in CRPS are not succesful for every patient. Sigtermans and others studied the effect of S(+)-ketamine on pain reduction in CRPS. The results were recently published in Pain.

For a few days 30 CRPS patients received Ketamine. This resulted in pain scores that were significantly lower than those of the patients in the control group. However, this effect disappeared after 12 weeks and no improvement in physical functions was found. On the positive side, the patients themselves considered the side effects to be acceptable.
