CRPS is usually preceded by a trauma like a fracture, inflammation or operation. In 3-11% of all cases however the disease develops spontaneously. De Rooij and others (LUMC Leiden) compared ‘spontaneous’ CRPS patients with trauma related CRPS patients. The results have recently been published in the European Journal of Pain.
The standard treatments of pain in CRPS ltaten op. Sigtermans and others studied the effect of S(+)-ketamine on pain reduction in CRPS. The results were recently published in Pain.
Bob van Hilten has been appointed professor at the University of Leiden. He accepted this appointment with his inauguration speech on the 23rd of May 2008. The topic of his research was: movement disorders in neurology. This included Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and Parkinson’s disease.
