8.12.08 - Better insight in epidemiology of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)
Until now little was known about the epidemiology and risk factors of CRPS. Knowledge about the risk factors is very valuable, because it enables doctors to recognise CRPS in an early stage and treat the disease quickly. It could also shed more light on the mechanisms of disease.
The department Medical Informatics of the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam carried out several studies on incidence, outcomes and treatment of CRPS. The research is based on data from the national database of general practitioners: the Integrated Primary Care Information Project (IPCI).
The results of some of these studies have been published in the dissertation by dr. Marissa Vrolijk-de Mos: ‘In Search for the Etiology of the Complex Regional Pain Syndrome’
