14.04.10 - Brush-evoked allodynia predicts outcome of spinal cord stimulation in CRPS
Spinal cord stimulation has proven to be an effective method for treating CRPS, but it is an invasive and rather expensive therapy.
Furthermore, about a third of the patients treated with SCS do not show improvents and about 32-38% of all patients experience complications.
Van Eijs and others (Acacemic Hospital Maastricht) did a study in order to predict in which cases SCS can be used against CRPS.
The results were published in the European Journal of Pain.
Based on this study Van Eijs and colleagues concluded that brush-evoked allodynia may be a significant negative prognostic factor of SCS treatment outcome after 1 year in chronic CRPS-1
